More electric vehicle charge points on the way for City Region

Published on 16/11/2017
A £110K fund to supply and install electric vehicle charge points (EVCs) at business premises across the City Region has now begun, with six businesses already taking up the offer.

The initiative follows the ongoing success of Recharge, a network of publically available charging points at key locations to support electric vehicle (EV) travel throughout the Liverpool City Region, of which there are currently 54

Any member of Merseytravel's free to join Employers' Network is eligible to apply for the grant of up to £5,000 for the supply & installation of electric vehicle charge points, provided for the exclusive use of their staff, visitors, company pool and fleet vehicles, with no match funding required.

Cllr Liam Robinson, Chair of the Liverpool City Region Transport Committee which oversees the work of Merseytravel, said: "It's great to see businesses taking up this offer, which will benefit their staff who drive electric cars and hopefully encourage other staff to think about switching to electric."

Steve Hunt, Managing Director at Steven A Hunt & Associates, the first company to take up the offer said, "We already have one employee who drives an electric car and to be able to offer him and our Clients a charging point at our premises, is a great idea.  It also means that we will consider electric vehicles as a real possibility when we look to add to our pool fleet."

The funding has been made available through the Growth Deal via the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) to support the region's low carbon initiatives to provide cleaner air & encourage greater use and purchasing of electric vehicles.
