How to use this Guide
Welcome to Merseytravel's Access Guide to passenger transport. Inside you will find information about how to get around Merseyside using buses, trains, ferries, tunnels and taxis.
The information is primarily factual. The aim of the Guide is to provide you with information to allow you to decide how you want to travel and where you want to travel. We have provided some guidance on which rail and bus stations are accessible and which are not, particularly for people using wheelchairs.
The Merseytravel Access Guide is divided into sections - this introductory section, "Getting Around Merseyside Guide," a station accessibility search section and a section for additional useful information.
- Getting Around Merseyside
-
This section contains general information about the range of services and facilities around Merseyside, and how to get further information and advice.
It contains information and advice on:
- Helping you to plan your journey
- Easy Access bus services
- Concessionary travel
- Merseylink
- Bus Stations & Bus Stops
- Mersey Ferries
- Taxis
- Rail Services and network map
- Mersey Tunnels
- Community Links Access Team
Contact addresses, web site addresses and telephone numbers for a wide range of services can be found in this section. More specific information can be found in the station search sections.
- Area Sections
-
Merseyside is divided into five districts.
Knowsley
Liverpool
St Helens
Sefton
Wirral
Each district has its own section in the Guide. Each district section contains information on all types of transport and the bus and rail facilities available in that district.
Information in each of the district sections follows the same order:
- accessible bus services (where available)
- bus station facilities
- Merseylink
- ferry information (where appropriate)
- rail stations
Each of the above sections describes the level of accessibility and other relevant information for the service or facility; for example the type and availability of travel information at a particular bus station. The rail section information includes a map of the Merseyrail network highlighting the stations in each district. Those stations are then listed in alphabetical order, describing all relevant features. These include car parking availability, facilities in the ticket office and waiting areas and access to platforms.
In some cases, additional information such as distances and accessibility to nearby shopping facilities and other attractions is included.
- Other Information
-
This is the final section of the Guide and contains information for the following:
- contact addresses and telephone numbers for bus operators
- contact addresses, web page addresses and telephone numbers for Merseytravel, Traveline Merseyside and other information services;
- contact addresses and telephone numbers for regional taxi licensing offices;
- details of Merseyside Code of Practice on Access and Mobility and Merseytravel's Access Strategy.
