Merseytravel date for Transport Minister

Transport secretary Philip Hammond heads a list of big-name speakers at a major national rail conference sponsored by Merseytravel in Liverpool next month (July 8).

Neil Scales, chief executive of Merseytravel, said:”The National Rail Conference is attended by some of the biggest names in the industry and we’re delighted Mr Hammond has agreed to join us.

“He can expect some tough questions about Government plans for the future of the industry.

Mr Scales added: “This is the first time ever that the Conference will have been held outside London and is an indication of the interest our own Merseyrail network attracts within the industry.”

Mr Hammond will talk for 20 minutes before accepting questions from senior decision-makers in the rail industry.

Other speakers at the conference include: Peter Hendy, Commissioner, Transport for London: Anna Walker, Chairman, Office of Rail regulation and Stephen Joseph, Executive Director, Campaign for Better Transport

The National Rail Conference, chaired by Anthony Smith, Chief Executive, Passenger Focus, will be held on Thursday July 8 at the BT Convention Centre.
