Rail strikes on Merseyrail network Sunday 23rd July 2017

What’s happening

People travelling to and from Royal Birkdale Golf Club for The Open Championship and those travelling within the City Region for other purposes are being advised to plan their journeys and check before they travel ahead of planned industrial action on Merseyrail services on Sunday 23rd July.

Guards represented by the RMT union are striking in relation to staffing arrangements on new trains.

Limited Merseyrail resources are being targeted at getting people to and from the The Open at Royal Birkdale, resulting in no Merseyrail services elsewhere on the network.
While train users will be most directly impacted on these dates, the whole transport network is expected to be busier as people find other ways to travel.

All rail services, apart from Merseyrail, are operating as normal and won’t be affected by strike action.
The finale of the LIMF event also takes place on Sunday 23rd July at Sefton Park.
No rail services will be serving the event, but you will be able to travel to and from Sefton Park by commercial bus services, with special shuttle bus services put on after the event.
These will take you back to the City Centre where you can catch commercial bus services. Keep an eye on the Liverpool City Council website for the latest information.
