 Train Accessibility

Accessibility on Train Services Across Merseyside

Merseytravel and the train operators of Merseyside are working hard to make rail travel accessible to everyone.

Train carriages have been refurbished, new stations have been designed with easy access in mind and there is lots of information available to help you plan your journey.  But many of the older stations on the network are over 100 years old and bringing them up to modern standards is costly.  Merseytravel is committed to improving accessibility but if you have mobility problems or any other disability there is plenty of help available.

Trains on the Wirral and Northern Line have been refurbished and have wide doors, wheelchair spaces and audible announcements.  Trains on the City Line are a little older and space is limited, particually for wheelchairs and buggies.  Some stations may be difficult to gain access to with steps, ramps and kerbs and the step up from the platform onto the train can be high.  Details of access to stations can be found on the National Rail website.

Please download this map of the Merseyrail network for a useful summary of which stations are fully wheelchair accessible. To learn more about our commitments to making your journey as safe and accessible as possible, please download our access guide below:
