What services does Merseytravel provide?

  • It subsidises services bus operators find unprofitable to run. This includes vital links to schools, hospitals and industrial estates, and the Merseylink service for people with mobility problems.

  • It funds and specifies service levels on the Merseyrail network. It also sets fare levels and invests in developing new stations and refurbishing older ones

  • It provides and funds free travel passes to the elderly and disabled.

  • It operates pre-paid ticketing, eg Trio, Solo, Trioplus, Railpass and Saveaway, with the bus and rail operators.

  • It operates the Traveline which is open 7am - 8pm on Mondays to Fridays and 8am - 8pm Saturdays and Sundays.

  • It maintains over 6,000 bus stops including over 2,400 shelters and major bus stations throughout Merseyside.

  • It owns and operates the famous Mersey Ferries and the Mersey Tunnels.
