 Kirkby Bus Review

Changes to Kirkby Bus Network

Residents in Kirkby have helped shape the town’s bus network following a consultation on plans to create a simpler, clearer network.
Plans for Kirkby include:-

  • New and extended routes to key locations such as the X3 going all the way from Kirkby Industrial Park to Liverpool.
  • A 217 evening and Sunday service to link Kirkby to the north and Halewood to the south to the Knowsley Leisure and Culture Park.
  • A revised 133 service providing a link to Ashworth Hospital
  • Services on the same routes operating under the same numbers whatever the time of day to simplify the system and reduce any confusion.

The changes will come in from 24th July 2016 – planned to coincide with the opening of the new Kirkby Bus Station.
A full list of the changes, along with details of alternative and new provision for any affected routes, can be found in the PDF below:
Kirkby is the first area to be reviewed as part of a wider review of the whole Liverpool City Region bus network over the next 12 months.
This is one of the first activities to start under the Bus Alliance, a formal partnership with operators Arriva and Stagecoach, with the aim of transforming bus services to encourage more people to take the bus.
While Stagecoach is the main operator in the area and has been key in re-shaping the network, also recently adding 16 brand new buses onto the 14 service, smaller operators have also been involved in helping develop the revised network.
Part of the review has been looking at the current supported bus network and considering how increasingly limited public resources can be focussed where there is most need.

Impacts of changes have been mitigated by re-routing or extending existing commercial services where possible to negate the need for a service supported by public funding.

Some original proposals have been updated based on feedback from the consultation.
