Economist - Local Industrial Strategy

Main Duties:
Liverpool City Region Combined Authority
 Economist – Local Industrial Strategy
 2 Year Fixed Term
The Liverpool City Region Combined Authority is growing a team of exceptional individuals to deliver our vision for an inclusive, globally competitive city region at the heart of the Northern Powerhouse.  This is an exciting time for us, having successfully negotiated and secured a Devolution Agreement with Government and elected the City Region’s first ever Metro Mayor.
Devolution brings real, local policy making and investment powers.  This role will help set the agenda for the future of the City Region, through our Industrial Strategy.  The postholder will take the lead in ensuring that the Strategy is grounded in sound economic theory, a strong evidence base and drives a change in economic conditions which will benefit the citizens and businesses of the City Region.  You will work alongside the Lead Officer for Local Industrial Strategy and the wider policy team.
We have already established a Strategic Investment Fund (“SIF”) to administer our devolved funding and deliver our emerging policy priorities, which we are capturing in our emerging Local Industrial Strategy, Spatial Development Strategy, Housing Strategy and Mayoral Transport Plan.  We expect to invest more than £500m in the next four years, across transport, housing, skills and adult education, business growth, innovation, land and property and the social economy, in projects which support our inclusive economy agenda.
We are seeking candidates with specialist skills in policy development, commissioning, investment, research and evaluation, and data science across a number of disciplines and experience levels.
But mostly we are looking for team members who are self-starting, collaborative and ambitious, who offer fresh ideas, and who demonstrate a commitment to evidence-based policy making and investment, and a determination to deliver for the people of the Liverpool City Region.
Closing Date for Applications: Friday 21 June 2019 @ 4.00pm.
