Stagecoach 80 & 82 services

Following recent consultation carried out by Stagecoach on their 22 route, the decision has been taken to revise the service to no longer serve Hoylake, Meols and Moreton, and also Arrowe Park Hospital. The revised route will operate from West Kirby via Irby and then on to Heswall and Chester. As a result of this change, there will be no bus service along Arrowe Brook Road, and it will become more difficult to access Arrowe Park Hospital from the north-western area of Wirral.

We have consulted on proposed changes to the 80 & 82 services in the West Kirby area and the outcome of the consultation is available below.

Stagecoach's Wirral Network Changes

Stagecoach have consulted on their intention to revise their network services in Wirral from 1st September 2019.  This relates to services 1,2,22,38,41,42 &X8.
The feedback received from the public and stakeholders has been considered by Stagecoach.  Please see attached a detailed response to the comments that were received by the operator.
Due to the changes that Stagecoach are introducing The Bus Team will shortly be consulting on proposals to change supported services to adapt provision as a result of the changes

Arriva 61 (Bootle - Aigburth)

Arriva has consulted on a proposal to change service 61 which operates between Bootle and Aigburth Vale. The service is suffering with punctuality and reliability problems during the peak periods. After considering the feedback the service will change in both directions between 7:30am and 9:30am and 2:30pm and 6pm Monday to Friday to omit Prescot Road and Broad Green Road in the Old Swan area, and run the service via Queens Drive between East Prescot Road and the Rocket. These journeys would renumbered 61A. The change will be implemented on 1st September 2019.

The feedback received from the public and stakeholders has been considered by Arriva. Please see attached a detailed response to the comments that were received by the operator.

Arriva 38

Arriva has consulted on a proposal to change services 38 and 38B which run between St Helens and Rainford. The services run at a loss and are unsustainable in their current form.

After considering the feedback, Arriva have decided to go with the changes as planned. This means all journeys will operate via Kiln Lane and Bleak Hill Road on a half  hourly frequency, with each journey numbered as service 38. Rainford Road and St Helens Cemetery will no longer be served by service 38. Passengers will still be able to access this area using Merseytravel supported services 152.

The feedback received from the public and stakeholders has been considered. Please see a detailed response below.

Outcome of 121 and 214/215 Bus Consultation

Merseytravel have sought feedback on the changes to the 212, 214 and 215. These changes are proposed as the services have suffered punctuality problems for some time, with the timetable being revised on two previous occasions to try and address the issues.
Unfortunately the service is still struggling to keep to time, due mainly to the length of the route and the congestion that is experienced in areas that it serves.

Outcome of 408/409 Bus Service Change Consultation

The feedback received from the public and stakeholders has been considered by Arriva in their consideration of the 408 service.

Their statement is below:

Further to the various meetings and discussions along with the consultation process relating to the 408 service which operates a circular route from Woodside and travels via Seacombe, Poulton, Wallasey Village and Liscard.

This new service was introduced in September 2017 after the Wirral Network Review. One of the key objectives was to improve the services in the Tower Wharf area. After due consideration we revised our existing route 409 and introduced a new service 408 which is essentially the same route but operating in the opposite direction.

This change then provided a 15 minute split option for passengers giving a significant improvement on the original 409 which operated every 30 minutes.

However, and almost from day one, the 408 has operated with a significant loss to the point where it became unsustainable and the notifications to Merseytravel, stakeholders and importantly our passengers got underway.

As part of the consultation process we have of course reviewed and considered carefully the customer comments but the losses as commented on earlier are unacceptable and if it were to continue the viability of the 409 would be put directly at risk.

As a result we have made the decision to withdraw the 408 from our January 2019 service change date.

The decision to withdraw the service has not been taken lightly and it is accepted there will be some difficulties, hopefully short term, whilst passengers adjust across to other services but we do have a responsibility to cover our operating costs.

This outcome is likely to be very disappointing and as with any new route we accepted from the outset there would be a commercial risk and the service was introduced in good faith but unfortunately it has turned out not to be commercially viable.

To emphasise, the 409 service will continue to operate and revert back to the pre-September 2017 route and frequency.

Alternative services to the 408:
Woodside - 409, 410, 411, 413, 414
Tower Road - 409, 411
Seacombe - 409, 411, 413
Liscard Road - 409, 433
Wallasey Village (Belvidere Road, Claremount Road, Sandy Lane) - 409
Wallasey Village - 106, 409, 413, 414
Breck Road - proposed change to 106
Poulton Road - 410 or 433

Merseytravel are currently considering options to provide provision in areas that will be outside of the approved distance from the network (section of Breck Road and Poulton Road) and will be looking to consult on those proposals shortly.
