​Happy National Walking Month!

May is National Walking Month, so why not set yourself a challenge?

Living Streets, the UK charity for everyday walking, is celebrating walking all month long by encouraging people to get out and about, alone or with friends, and give walking a go – and we’re getting involved!

As part of our Arrive Happy campaign, we want to support and empower commuters across Liverpool City Region to walk to work for all or part of their journey.

You could get involved by pledging to walk to work one day a week, or walking there and back every day. However you take part, by starting with something simple and gradually building up to more, you could end this month feeling fitter and fabulous!

Research has found that a brisk 10 minute walk each day can improve physical fitness, reduce stress, aid weight loss and boost mood – so what are you waiting for?

You don’t need to make a massive change to the way you travel to feel the benefits. Getting your heart rate up just a few times a week can make a difference to your health and happiness. Try getting off the bus a stop earlier and walking for 10 minutes, or walking to the station instead of taking the car. Small changes to your journey could make a big difference. And making a pledge with friends or work colleagues could give you the encouragement you need to do it.
