Accessibility All the Way - Buses,Bus outside Liverpool Parkway Stations & Stops

Most buses in Merseyside are fully accessible and specially designed for people who are less mobile.


Key points are indicated below:

  • Parents with buggies and small children.

  • Shoppers with heavy​ bags to carry.

  • Wheelchair users.

  • Older people and those who are less mobile.

Accessible buses have: 

  • Wide doors.

  • Low entrances (some buses “kneel” and have extending ramps to make them even easier to get on and off).

  • Flat floors, no steps.

  • Plenty of bright, colour contrasting easy grip handles.

  • Priority seats for people with mobility difficulties.

Accessible Bus Stations

As part of its commitment to encourage greater use of the bus network, Merseytravel has invested heavily in bus stations. For people who have mobility difficulties, bus stations are an excellent place to start or finish a journey. 

Key facilities may include: 

  • Fully accessible toilets at some bus stations (during opening hours).

  • Parent and baby facilities at some bus stations.

  • Lighting and Closed Circuit TV for personal security.

  • Fully trained staff.

  • Electronic timetable information.

  • Tactile paving for blind and partially sighted passengers.

  • Travel Centres.

Accessible Bus Stops

Merseytravel is committed to improving passenger facilities at bus stops throughout Merseyside. The new facilities will include: 

  • Where possible, bus shelters to give protection from the weather.

  • Good lighting to incr​ease personal security.

  • Seating.

  • Bus timetable information.

  • Raised kerbs to ease access on and off buses.

  • Enhanced bus stop marking and clear way orders to enable buses to fully access the stops and prevent unauthorised parking.
