Category B - Profoundly or Severely D/deaf

 

Eligibility for the Category B Travel Pass for those who are profoundly or severly D/deaf is based on guidelines from the Department for Transport (DfT) under the English National Concessionary Travel Scheme (ENCTS).

If you are profoundly or severly D/deaf, you may qualify for a travel pass.

There is no statutory registration system for D/deaf people. However, you may be registered on a voluntary basis with your local council authority social services department. 

Proving Eligibility

To successfully apply for a Travel Pass under Category B, you will need to provide at least one of the following:

  • Confirmation of registration from local authority social services department as being profoundly or severely D/deaf.
  • A letter from an audiologist confirming applicant is profoundly or severely D/deaf, indicating a hearing loss at 70 decibels or more in both ears.

Additionally, you will need to provide proof of where you live in the Merseyside area.

  1. Download and Print the Form: Get the Fast Track Application Form and fill it out completely.

  2. Gather Your Documents: Make sure to attach all the necessary documents to show your eligibility.

  3. Proof of Residency: Include evidence that you live in Merseyside.

  4. Passport-sized Photo: Provide a recent, clear photo of your full face.

  5. Visit a Merseytravel Centre: Bring your completed Fast Track Application Form and all relevant documents to a Merseytravel Centre.

Our friendly team will process your application and review your supporting documents to confirm your eligibility.

How to Apply Online

  2. Fill in the Your Information section.
  3. Choose Category B – I am profoundly or severely deaf.
  4. Upload proof of registration with your local council or a letter from an audiologist specialist confirming in writing that you are profoundly or severely deaf, indicating a hearing loss at 70 decibels or more in both ears.
  5. Upload a recent colour photo of yourself.
  6. Upload proof of your address.
  7. Upload proof of your identity and age.
  8. Read the declaration.
  9. Sign and submit your application.

After you submit, please allow up to 6 weeks for us to process your application and send your pass to your registered address.

What Happens Next?

Once we receive your application, our team will review it along with any supporting documents you've shared, following the guidelines set by the Department for Transport (DfT) under the English National Concessionary Travel Scheme (ENCTS).

We strive to process all applications within 4 weeks.

If we need additional information about your application or if we think an assessment is necessary, a member of our Concessions team will reach out to you directly.

If you qualify for the travel pass, we'll send it to the address you provided in your application. Please allow up to 10 days for it to reach you via Royal Mail. 

If you do not receive your travel pass within 10 days, please contact our Customer Services team on 0300 131 2881 so that a replacemet can be arranged as quickly as possible.
